I told Eddie I would blog about Dr. Cornel West before he had a chance to finish the book….sorry babe. Last year Eddie and I had the opportunity to hear Dr. West speak at Bethany Baptist Church in Newark, NJ. He was sharing snippets of his life that are now recorded in his Memoir. He is an awesome speaker, captivating, full of knowledge and never uses notes.
I started reading Living and Loving Out loud while waiting for Eddie at the train station. He got in the car and instantly I start talking about how much I LOVE this book, the poetic language and the riveting story and how I was only on page 3! He started hysterically laughing at me. Fast forward a few months later, he started reading the book on the train, gets in the car with the same passion and excitement. There is no denying Dr. Cornel Wests’ life is quiet an exciting story. My mother in-law just finished and my father in-law just started reading. Definitely something to add to your book list!

I’ve always enjoyed reading. I often throw myself excitedly into new books. So this year, when I received James Brown’s “Role of a Lifetime” for Christmas from my parents, I was excited to jump in.
First, let me clarify: this is not James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. It’s the TV commentator most popular for his role as the studio anchor on the NFL Today on CBS. I didn’t know much about the man prior to reading the book. However, I learned a great deal about his life, the obstacles he’s overcome and what’s important to him. The thing that probably struck the deepest chord with me was his faith. JB (as he is called on air and by friends) is a man of deep faith. He shares that faith with his family and with all he comes into contact with. It is something that serves as a model for me to emulate in my life.
Next up on the reading list is the memoirs of anther man that I look up to: the great thinker, teacher, speaker and man Dr. Cornel West. I’m about 30 pages in and I’m already enthralled! More once I’m finished…
I am soooooo excited to share this post because it really celebrates the essence of our wedding day. We had the most AWESOME videographer, Tony Sutera of Precious Moments Video. He was recommend by friends of ours that got married a few years ago. He was awesome to work with and truly captured our day. Here is a highlight video he put together for us.
This morning I woke up to the sound of things going off. A power outage. I was frustrated and annoyed. How was I going to get ready for work? Ugh, I was going to have to shower in the dark. And OH NO the food in the fridge is going to spoil. This was my initial reaction.
Then I started thinking about the millions of people who have lost their homes in Haiti. People who are sleeping on the street wishing they had running water and food to eat. Suddenly things were put into perspective for me. I had a tiny glimpse of being “put out” and that made me realize just how blessed I am. The people of Haiti need our help. Please remember how blessed we are. Remember the little things we take for granted on a daily basis. Dig down deep and help those in need. This weekend is playoff weekend. It’s not just any playoff weekend. It’s the weekend the JETS play for a spot in the Super Bowl. This is historic because the last time the Jets made it this far was like 40 years ago.
A common thread Eddie and I share is that both of our parents were Jets season ticket holders since before we were born. Much of our “courtship” was spent going to games or watching football. I guess you could say my dad prepped me well! Football is big part of our lives and this Sunday we WILL be watching! Go JETS!

Many people know that Eddie and I both graduated from Boston College, however few people know that we are also connected through INROADS Central New Jersey which is an internship program for college students. After graduating both of us have actively participated in the CNJ Alumni Association. It has been a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our professional network, but more importantly it has given us a chance to give back.
We’ve cleaned up highways, served in soup kitchens, boxed canned goods for delivery and this morning we volunteered at the Franklin Food Bank. I love giving and it’s great to share that passion with my husband!

My wife think she wants a dog. But she doesn’t. She wants to look at cute dogs, but she doesn’t want to walk it when it’s 30 degrees and raining. That would be me. So we don’t have a dog.
But a friend of mine was able to convince her husband to get a dog. And we were IM-ing each other about it when she said that her dog was a Cavalier King Charles. And thus, my quote of the week was formed:
“Cavalier King Charles? You mean a Cavalier King James???”
I had never heard of a Cavalier King Charles, but I know LeBron James plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers. I thought maybe the husband named the dog after the great LeBron (whose nickname happens to be King James!). Or maybe they named a whole dog breed after the new number 23? We both got a good laugh out of that one.
So in summation, I advise you to not get a dog if your wife wants one and you don’t. But if you do, name it after your favorite basketball player.

5 months ago today I said I do. Time has gone by so quickly, but we make sure to savor each moment. One way we celebrate our togetherness is date night. Yesterday Eddie called me from work to let me know that today would be date night. I found myself getting excited, anxious and a little nervous like I did when we were dating. The excitement of not knowing what to expect, what I was going to wear and where we would go clouded my mind.
This morning I found a card on my pillow giving me specific instructions on what I needed to do to prepare for our evening of fun. In the past date night has included going out for a nice dinner, staying in to watch a movie and one of my favorites imitating one of our favorite Food network shows Chopped. It’s always about doing something fun and most importantly doing it together.
Tonight Eddie ordered from 4 different local restaurants we’ve been meaning to try as well as making a huge pitcher of Sangria. So I guess you’re wondering why I’m blogging in the middle of date night? Well, this date night in particular we are focusing on our goals for the year. Trying new local restaurants and the rebirth of our blog and a host of other things fall into that category and there is no time better than the present to get started.
I’m going to get back to my hubby and let you enjoy some of the pictures from the evening. If you didn’t know already we have a thing for food, so if you’re hungry I don’t recommend scrolling down lol. Enjoy!
You can see a full recap of all the food we ate from Eddie at The Hungry Commuter.
