Play Your Role: Good First Book of the Year

I’ve always enjoyed reading. I often throw myself excitedly into new books. So this year, when I received James Brown’s “Role of a Lifetime” for Christmas from my parents, I was excited to jump in.
First, let me clarify: this is not James Brown, the Godfather of Soul. It’s the TV commentator most popular for his role as the studio anchor on the NFL Today on CBS. I didn’t know much about the man prior to reading the book. However, I learned a great deal about his life, the obstacles he’s overcome and what’s important to him. The thing that probably struck the deepest chord with me was his faith. JB (as he is called on air and by friends) is a man of deep faith. He shares that faith with his family and with all he comes into contact with. It is something that serves as a model for me to emulate in my life.
Next up on the reading list is the memoirs of anther man that I look up to: the great thinker, teacher, speaker and man Dr. Cornel West. I’m about 30 pages in and I’m already enthralled! More once I’m finished…
